Shelf Life
Fellow Islanders, Namaskaar! Today let us deliberate over a topic that touches everybody. I came accross an article wherein it was stated that "FRIENDSHIP" , "LOYALTY", "COMPANIONSHIP" HAS A "BEST BY" date now. I reflected back to my school days where we were taught the maxim(s) "Too much familiarity breeds contempt" and "Out of sight out of mind". Friends read together the above maxim(s) work in different directions. It says don't be too familiar, lest you become a subject of contempt and at same time it says that once you are out of sight, you are no longer in the mental radar. As tiny tots we mugged up the maxims but never adhered to the principle. Unknowingly, though we knew that any thing less than "TOO FAMILIARITY" is no familiarity at all and once you are familiar you remain that way irrespective of the fact whether you are "in sight" or" out of sight" . Things have changed , my friends and so have circumstances and "TOGETHERNESS" in any form has now become a piece of commodity with a "best before" date and strangely enough now we follow this trend and ironically feel happy at the same time. This leaves with a craving for the couplets " Yeh Sohrat Bhi Le Lo, Yeh Daulat Bhi Le Lo, Magar Mujhko Lauta Do Bachpan Ka Mausam .
